1.7.9. Engine start-up by means of an auxiliary starting cable

If the accumulator was discharged, the engine can be started by means of auxiliary starting cables and the accumulator of other car.
Thus it is necessary to observe extreme care. Any deviation from the provided instruction can lead to traumas or damages at explosion of storage batteries and to damage of electric devices of both cars.
Avoid sparks and an open flame near the accumulator.
The discharged accumulator can already freeze at temperature 0°С. Before connecting an auxiliary starting cable, it is necessary to defreeze the frozen accumulator in a warm room.
Do not allow hit of storage liquid in eyes, on skin, a fabric and the varnished surfaces. Liquid contains sulfuric acid which at direct contact causes traumas and damages.
At work with the accumulator put on goggles and clothes.
Use the auxiliary accumulator of constant tension (12 In). Its capacity (And · ч) there should not be much less than a capacity of the discharged accumulator. Values of tension and capacity are specified on accumulators.
It is necessary to use an auxiliary starting cable with the isolated polar clips, section not less than 16 mm2, for diesel engines – 25 mm2.
The discharged accumulator do not disconnect from an onboard network.
Disconnect unnecessary consumers of a current.
During all procedure do not bend over the accumulator.
Polar clips of one cable should not concern clips of another.
During auxiliary start-up cars should be motionless.
Tighten the parking brake. A mechanical transmission and Easytronic switch in neutral situation, an automatic transmission – in situation P.
Connect cables in the sequence shown in drawing:
1. Connect a cable to a positive pole of 1 auxiliary accumulator (the sign "plus" on the case of the accumulator or on the plug).
2. Other end of this cable connect to a positive pole 2 discharged the accumulator (sign "plus").
3. Connect the second cable to a negative pole 3 auxiliary accumulators (sign "minus").
4. Other end of the second cable 4 connect to mass of other car – for example, connect to the block of the engine or to carving connection of an engine mount.
Do not connect a cable to a negative pole of the discharged accumulator.
The point of connection should be as it is possible further from the discharged accumulator.
Cables lay so that they did not concern rotating details of motor office.
Start the car engine from which the current moves.
Through 5 mines to start the engine of other car. Attempts of start-up should not last more than 15 with with an interval in 1 minute.
After start of both engines let's to them work about 3 mines idling, without disconnecting cables.
To avoid superfluous tension in electric system, before disconnection of cables from plugs it is necessary to include any consumer of the electric power (for example, light, heating of back glass) on the car consuming a current.
Removal of cables to make upside-down.
